  Dear Resident,

As you may know, the Village owns over 150 acres of Green Space in Moreland Hills. I have appointed a Parks and Green Space Commission to oversee management of this land. The following residents have agreed to serve on the Commission: Monica Sturgis, Kris Tesar, and Franzetta Turner. Also serving on the Commission are Former Council President, Dan Fritz, Councilwoman Robin Cooper and me. We will begin working on signage and trail improvements for Forest Ridge, our 124-acre preserve, next month. We plan on having a Grand Opening Celebration for Forest Ridge in the spring.

Speaking of celebrations, please join us at Village Hall on Saturday, October 4 for our “Greening the Hills” day. This event is part of our effort to make Moreland Hills an environmentally-friendly place to live. Councilwoman Robin Cooper headed up the planning for this event and was helped by residents Sandy Cobb, Ed Wagner and Judy Neuger. If you would like to volunteer to help on October 4, please contact Village Hall at 440.248.1188 or villagehall@morelandhills.com. Please see the enclosed flyer for more information.

The State Auditors recently finished their audit of the Village of Moreland Hills financial statements. I am happy to tell you that we got an excellent preliminary report. Our Village is in very sound financial condition thanks to our fiscally conservative budgeting practices. The full report of the audit will be available to the public by the end of the month.

On the ballot in November: The Cuyahoga County Public Library is asking for a 2 mill replacement levy and a half mill levy increase for operations. The Library is ranked number one in the nation for libraries its size. It is a very worthy organization. Also, there will be five issues on the ballot asking for changes to the Moreland Hills Charter. These issues came from suggestions from the Charter Review Commission. You will receive a letter from them soon which will explain each issue.

Finally, I am thrilled to let you know that I won third place in the Mayors’ Dessert Cup Challenge. Time Warner Cable has donated $50 to the Moreland Hills Police and Employees Foundation in honor of this. If you would like to try my recipe you will find it at www.morelandhills.com.

Please remember to recycle. Have a safe and happy fall!

Mayor Susan Renda
