Deer Management Program

The Cleveland Metroparks will be continuing their deer management program this winter.  A portion of South Chagrin Reservation is within the municipal boundaries of the Village of Moreland Hills, and management is planned for this area.

From Noon to 6:00am the following morning, portions or all of South Chagrin Reservation will be closed to the public on several days from January 22 through March 21, 2021.  The reservation will be posted/signed and closed completely during the management program.

The safety protocol that has been successfully utilized by Cleveland Metroparks from the beginning of the program will continue; Safety remains their number one goal. Specific closures will be posted on Cleveland Metroparks Alerts and Closures page by 6:00pm on the evening prior to an area's closure.  When posted, the announcement will give details about reservations and sections of the parkway that will be closed between noon and 6:00am the following morning. https://Clevelandmetroparks.com/parks/visit/alerts-closures

Cleveland Metroparks has worked hard to ensure that the deer management program is safe, humane, and effective.  As in past years, venison will be donated to a local food bank.

South Chagrin Reservation Restoration Project - Jackson Field

The Metroparks has recently began a restoration project at Chagrin River at Jackson Field to stabilize the streambank, improve floodplain connectivity, and to improve water quality in the Chagrin River. This erosion has infringed upon Jackson Field and threatens the hiking and bridle trails. Rebuilding those trails would require significant tree removal. This project uses natural materials including boulders and trees to rebuild the bank and restore wildlife habitat and native vegetation.

The heavy construction will end by Feb 28, and the landscaping will be installed in the spring. Parking will be limited during this time.
