Our annual Garlic Mustard Eradication Event will be held May 7th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Forest Ridge Preserve on Chagrin River Road. If you're interested in participating, please meet at the Forest Ridge Village Park by the pond at 1:00pm. Don't forget to bring gardening gloves and protective gear for the sun.
Garlic mustard is an invasive herb that has spread
throughout our region and is one of the worst non-native invaders. While it is
usually found in the undergrowth of disturbed wooded lots and forest edges,
recent findings have shown that garlic mustard has the ability to establish itself
and spread in pristine areas. This spread has allowed it to become the dominant
plant in the undergrowth of some forests, greatly reducing the diversity of all
species. Garlic mustard is one of very few non-native plants to be able to
successfully invade forest understories.
