The James A. Garfield Memorial Cabin - In January 1830, Abram Garfield built a cabin in what is now Moreland Hills. A year later on November 19, 1831 James A Garfield, the 20th President of the United States, was born. Our Village Hall grounds contain a replica of that cabin which has been visited by hundreds of children and historians from all over the country. The members of the Historical Society donate their time and knowledge to provide an opportunity to learn about Garfield and the early days of the settlement of this area.

The Garfield birth site and the replica of the James A. Garfield Log Cabin are open June through September on Saturdays from 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Make appointments for Group visitations by calling the Village Hall at 440-248-1188.

You can contribute to the Historical Society’s mission to preserve our heritage and become a part of the history of Moreland Hills by purchasing an engraved brick for $60 which will become part of the walkway to the Garfield Cabin. Additional bricks in the same family are $50.00 each. This memento makes a great gift for the Holidays, special anniversaries or birthdays.

The pathway extends to the cabin from the front and the back of the Moreland Hills Village Hall. The path from the back of the Village Hall is handicapped accessible. Your brick can be inscribed with your name or can honor a family member or friend – even a pet! For many years to come you will be able to see your brick as you stroll on this historic path.

Click here for an order form. Submit completed forms to The Moreland Hills Historical Society, Moreland Hills Village Hall, 4350 S.O.M. Center Road, Moreland Hills, Ohio 44022. If you have any questions please call Village Hall at 440-248-1188.
