Mayor's Monarch Pledge

Mayor Renda has signed the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, through the National Wildlife Federation.  The Pledge is a commitment to restore butterfly habitat in Moreland Hills and to encourage our residents to do the same.

The Monarch Butterfly population has declined by 90% in the last 20 years.  By planting native milkweeds and other nectar-producing plants in your yards/gardens, it will provide habitat for the butterfly population.  The Village will be planting our very own Butterfly Garden at Veteran’s Gateway Park this year.

To help you get started in your efforts, you can take the Butterfly Heroes Pledge which runs through June 1, to create a butterfly/pollinator habitat this spring. Take the pledge online at www.nwf.org/ButterflyHeroes, and once you do, you will receive a FREE kit in the mail with native milkweed or nectar plant seeds and a regional native plant list. We can all do our part to help save this iconic species.
