SEASONAL RECYCLING NEWS

During this busy autumn season, here are three recycling tips to consider as you prepare your garden beds for winter and get ready to deck the halls with twinkling lights.

PLASTIC GARDEN POTS

Please do NOT put them in your curbside recycling bins. They are not recyclable curbside because there is no market for them at the Kimble sorting facility; they will end up in the landfill.   If you put them in your trash, they will also end up in the landfill. The most sustainable approach is to bring them to Lowes Greenhouse in Bainbridge, Lowe's Home Improvement on Miles Road, or to any Home Depot to recycle.

HOLIDAY LIGHTS BENEFIT ZOO LIONS

These festive strings of lights will cause havoc at the recycling facility by tangling in the equipment and causing shutdowns on the sorting lines. Please leave them out of your recycling bins. If they are put into the trash, they will go to the landfill where they will sit for many, many years. Moreland Hills now has a year-round drop off at the Village service garage; signage will direct you to the appropriate collection box.  Collection hours are Monday-Friday from 7:00AM-3:00 PM. The lights will be delivered to the Cuyahoga Solid Waste District where a Cleveland company will recycle the lights to benefit the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Lights for Lions program.

CAMPAIGN SIGNS

These signs can also be dropped off behind the Village service garage; signage will direct you to the appropriate collection box.  Please do not put them into your trash or recycle bins.

Please reach out to Kris Tesar, Recycling Ambassador at ktesar@morelandhills.com with any questions or concerns.

From the Parks Commission…

We hope you have been enjoying the unseasonably warm weather although as you are reading this, we could very well have had a snowstorm already.  That’s Northeast Ohio for you!

Our “Head For The Hills!” event was a success.  Thank you to everyone who came out to support the event and our parks.  There were over 150 participants this year and all funds raised will go directly to improving the Village's green spaces. It warmed my heart to see our community coming together at Forest Ridge Preserve. We had runners, hikers, families, and four-legged friends experiencing the beauty of nature together. The Parks Commission hopes this will be the first of many community gatherings and with our pavilion slated to open by the end of the year, we anticipate many more opportunities to bring our residents together.

Fall and Winter are wonderful times to explore the trails of Forest Ridge. The leaves may be falling but there are so many hidden treasures waiting to be explored both high in the tree canopy and deep in the dirt. Grab your walking shoes and get out there. Happy trails everyone.
