The Moreland Hills Wastewater Department is dedicated to protecting the health of the residents and protecting the aquatic environment of the Chagrin Valley region. We accomplish this by operating and maintaining four Wastewater Purification Facilities.

Wastewater Purification Facilities

Woodland Glen is the largest of the four facilities. It is designed to treat 80,000 gallons of wastewater per day. It services the sanitary district at the north end of the Village near South Woodland Road. This includes the commercial district at the intersection of Chagrin Boulevard and SOM Center Road. It also includes those homes and business on roads adjacent to SOM Center Road between Chagrin and South Woodland

Jackson Valley serves the sewered streets off of SOM Center Road from Pebblebrook to Cableknoll. It is designed to treat 60,000 gallons per day; however, it is currently hydraulically overloaded. That is, we receive much more flow than the plant was originally designed to treat. Because of this, we are working on plans to expand and improve the treatment capacity and process. We hope to begin construction later this year and be finished before the summer of 2009. The new plant will be equipped with the most modern advancements in wastewater treatment technology, membrane bio-reactors (MBRs). This equipment filters the wastewater so completely that not even bacteria or large molecules can penetrate the membranes. The resulting effluent water that will be discharged to Wiley Creek exceeds drinking water standards in many of the parameters. Another attractive feature about the MBRs is that they take up very little room compared to conventional treatment processes that require large tanks.

Quail Hollow is a 20,000 gallon per day plant. It services the area in and around Quail Hollow Farms off of Chagrin Boulevard.

Greentree is our smallest plant with a treatment capacity of 10,000 gallons per day. As the name implies, this plant serves Greentree Road, which is off of Bentleyville Road.

Sanitary Sewer Collection System

The Village of Moreland Hills has a separate sanitary sewer collection system. Storm water is collected separately and conveyed directly to the receiving stream. As part of our sanitary sewer system, we operate and maintain six lift stations. They are named after the area that they serve. They are Winterberry, Falls Creek, Easton Lane, Village Hall, Cableknoll and Moreland Mews. The first five are in the Jackson Valley sanitary district, while Moreland Mews is in the Woodland Glen sanitary district.
